eflections of a Madman II: Twenty-Ninth Installment
A new story: from the personal log of Jeremy Syn

It’s been ten years since I founded Chaos Enterprises while at Andrew College. Rusty and Scott and Ernest... we’re still together. And all the ideals, all the creativity Chaos was founded upon- it’s all still here. But there is something that continues to bother all of us. We cannot continue to just sit by and watch. Monty developed the Banshee 21 Assault Vehicle and we sold them to antiterrorism forces all over the globe, but the terrorism didn’t stop, not because of the cars, but because of the laws these forces had to stay confined within. Rusty and Ernest want to create the Chaos Task Forces we dreamed about at Andrew, the two man teams of driver and weapons specialist. But that was just a fantasy, based on a fantasy role-playing game. We knew that then. What happened?

Rusty found this guy, calls himself Horatio Scratch just so people can call him Mr. Scratch, the Devil, Lucifer. Scott came across the name while pirating through the Xoetrop Computer files in California. With that, we discovered the World Crime Consortium. But, damn it, Chaos is a business venture, not a crime fighting element! Still, I met this Scratch, and he’s good! Just like the rest of us... creative, intuitive, immediate. But he has this anger, almost comical if it weren’t for his intense sincerity. I’m pretty sure he’s an ex-military man, ‘Nam, maybe. But he’s dangerous. Rusty convinced me to give him the Chaos private modem line. I gave him a password, but he’s not using it. He’s looking for those damn security codes again. One-track mind. He doesn’t know what he’s up against here. Maybe....

Eli has been acting screwy lately. I designed his programming and Owen wrote it, so I know it’s not a problem with the original coding. Maybe Scratch has gotten in. Anyway, Eli is asking questions I can’t justify concerning some of our business ventures in the Middle East and South America. I hate not informing Eli, but these things need to remain closed. Scott and Rusty agree. Ernest feels we need a strike team to go in to protect our assets, but that’s not our job!

Maybe it is. I don’t know. More later.

It’s two days since the previous entry. Rusty and Ernest set up a demonstration of a fully loaded Banshee and two crewmen, namely Rusty and Ernest, against a terrorist force of some thirty men with hostages. It was impressive, but then I knew it would be. We designed the Banshee for this type of mission. That’s how we’ve managed to sell them to those governments, including the US. But those governments cannot implement them as we can. It’s a matter of legality and morality. Their morality can justify murder, but not breaking the word of the law. We believe in justice and can act on that without remorse. Scott gave me a list of drivers and specialists already employed by the company who have worked on the scenario and are trained for what Rusty has in mind. It just sounds too much like a bad Bond flick. Gadgets and flying cars and laser beam watches. I know it’s all possible and I know we have the cars and equipment, but why Chaos? Why not a government agency? For precisely the same reasons above.

Then, damn it, let’s do it.
