Giant beetles are the bigger cousins of the common ordinary beetle. They are about five feet in length. Usually found in groups of 4 - 16 (4d10), they can be seen just about anywhere from caves to wandering in the forest to scavenging in the desert. Unlike their smaller kin, they do not scurry away when they have been sighted. Giant beetles are constantly hungry and are always looking for food. They do not normally rest in one place unless there is a constant source of food. As they crush and then grind their food with their mandibles, victims of giant beetles are generally unrecognizable. As their eyesight and hearing are very poor, giant beetle rely heavily on their feelers. There are some giant beetles that have strange defenses and attacks such as acid spray and smelly gases, though encounters with these have been extremely rare. Some species make excellent riding beasts for smaller characters.
