Wraith Charles and the Wal-Mart Greeter |
They call us "Masters of the Mobile." Sure, OK, whatever. What we're really good at is balancing. Yep. We can balance almost anything. Give us a long enough fulcrum and we'll balance a mountain! Of course, this is coming from someone who figured out that, assuming the universe is infinite, he really is at the center of it!
Wraith Charles and the Wal-Mart Greeter is a simple single bar mobile, a delicate balancing act between two forces on a lightweight aluminium bar. We bought the bar from Lowes (aluminium electrical conduit). This piece we cut at the 5' or 6' mark. We suspended the two figures from the bar at opposite ends, the suspended the bar on a rope hanging between the shed and a tree. Then we balanced, playing with distances away from center and sliding the center of the bar back and forth through the hanger. Simple balancing act. Looks great in the dark! We light it with a red spot, a blue spot, and a blacklight shell. Awesome! Unfortunately, some neighborhoodlums stole Wraith and Wally late last week. Party City has no replacements for Wraith, and Wally is not made anymore. It is a sad day. The thing is, if these people wanted to haunt their own yard, I would gladly have given them some of my props- it's happened in the past. Oh, well. We will see what happens. |
